How to cover dark under eye circles: Look & Video

dark_under_eye_1Hello! Today I am presenting you a look I did on my friend Martine whose face you might have already seen on my blog (Marion Cotillard inspired makeup or look Martine). This look is very special because it comes with a video tutorial but also because Martine suffers from dark under eye circles. Since it is hereditary she cannot do anything about it but cover it with makeup. And it has been her biggest worry (in terms of makeup) ever since I have known her. The day we shot, she also had swollen and puffy eyes because of the hay fever. But other than that I can assure you that I have never seen a pimple on her face ever since I’ve known her!

On a daily basis, she uses the Estée Lauder double wear concealer which covers a lot but not enough. Everyday people keep asking her whether she is tired or if she had been out the night before.

The day before Martine came to my house for the shooting, Ana Albiol, a Spanish makeup artist from Valencia, published a makeup tutorial on her Youtube channel where she showed how she covered the dark circles of one of her clients. Basically what she did was to mix the Sensual Skin Enhancer with Makeup Forever’s Face and Body and apply it gently. I highly recommend that you watch her tutorial because the result is quite impressive.

When Martine celebrated her birthday last November, I did her makeup and to cover the dark circles, I used Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin enhancer (SSE) after the foundation, but I didn’t find the result satisfying. The Sensual Skin enhancer is a very very pigmented corrector/concealer which covers the darkest dots of the skin. I personally use it to cover or lighten the deep scars in my skin due to severe acne. I can do a separate review of the product if you wish, but I can tell you right away that, due to its creamy consistency and high concentration of pigment I sometimes find it hard to work with.

Nevertheless, as seen the day before, I decided to mix the SSE with MAC’s Face & Body foundation and it worked miracles! What I did wrong is that I used too much of the SSE. Again, as it is so highly pigmented you really need the tiniest quantity of product. For the rest of the skin, I used MAC’s Face & on its own and apply a light layer of Estée Lauder double wear to conceal the under eye area once I had finished applying the eyeshadows.

With Martine’s green eyes, I used mauve/taupe eyeshadows and glossy nude lips. You can find the entire step-by-step in the video. As always the list of products used is at the end of the article.

I hope you enjoy, thank you for your time!
